Manhood
There are a lot of things that make up what a “Man” should be.
-
Growing up I felt one of those things was to know how to work with your hands.
-
I never had the male roll model around to teach me this…and for a while I played the victim because of it.
-
Yes, a Man is a provider, a protector, a leader, a symbol of strength.
-
But, he’s a lot of other things as well…or he should be.
-
As I’ve gotten older I’ve wanted to improve on becoming all of those things…probably because I feel it’s one of the reasons my marriage failed.
-
And yes, a Man can and should recognize and admit his faults and short comings.
-
With regards to working with my hands, I put myself out there to friends quite a few times offering to help for free just so I could learn. Nothing came of it…
-
I prayed on it. I prayed for something to come my way that I could not only learn but teach my kids.
-
My prayers were answered by furniture restoration. Something I have never done in my life but soon found a passion for.
-
I started clueless, but I started and that was the key. Little did I know my artistic background would come into play doing something like this.
-
Learning repairs (big and small) were part of the process I picked up fast…why? Because I wanted to get to the fun part…the painting, the staining, the design.
-
When I complete a piece, I often look at my hands when I’m done. I see the dust, the wood, the paint and as strange as this sounds…I’m thankful.
-
Thankful because I sat behind a computer for years, but I couldn’t tell you how to fix a thing…not one. I no longer feel useless. In fact I feel like I can figure out how to fix a lot of things now…confidence is a trip.
-
So is being a Man…we’re told we mature last. Some of us never mature and that’s a shame.
-
The Key? Be honest with yourself where you fall short and what you need to improve on to become the man you never had in your life. Then go extremely hard at becoming just that…
-
God Bless 🙏🏼❤️💪🏼🦁
